How Has Single Credential Security Benefited Our Clients So Far?

Spectrum Security and Fire Systems specialise in providing access control system solutions compatible with 3rd party credentials. This means that the client’s personnel only ever have to carry one credential (for instance a card or fob) to gain access to a multi-tenanted building and then to their own office space within that building.

Below are some examples on how single credential security has been a huge benefit to our clients.

Example 1 – Multi-Tenanted Building

The client was moving into a floor in a multi-tenanted building wherein the Landlord already had an access control system installed to control access to the common areas, e.g. ground floor main entrance lobby turnstiles/speedlanes, lifts, main stair cores etc. The client wanted to install their own, autonomous access control system for their office space but did not want their personnel to have to carry two credentials. Spectrum Security & Fire Systems provided an access control system solution that would be able to ‘read’ the Landlord’s existing credentials meaning that the client’s personnel only had to carry the one access control card. The Landlord provided the credentials already programmed into the building’s access control system. The client then programmed those same credentials into their system and issued them to their personnel.

Example 2– Global Client with Corporate Access Control/ID Card

The client was moving into a building in Central London and they wanted their overseas personnel to be able to get access to their London office 24/7. We analysed the client’s corporate cards and designed an access control system that was compatible. Thus the corporate cards could be programmed into the access control system at the London office. If this had been a multi-tenanted building this might present problems. Where this has occurred in the past we have issued the client with self-adhesive ‘Micro Tags’ which can be stuck to the Landlord’s credentials so, although the client’s personnel are effectively carrying two credentials they are all “on” the same card.

Example 3 – Clients with Both Intruder Alarm and Access Control Systems

It is a mandatory requirement that intruder alarm systems with police response must only be disarmed using a fob or token. Usually, if the client has an access control system as well as the intruder alarm this would mean that their personnel would need to carry two credentials; one credential for their access control system and the other for the intruder alarm system. Spectrum Security & Fire Systems can easily interface the two systems which simplifies the operation for the user and, again, means that they only need to carry one credential. The users arm the intruder alarm system using a common PIN but disarm the system using their access control card provided that they are authorised to do so. If they are not authorised the access control system will refuse them access until an authorised user turns up to disarm the system. When the intruder alarm system is disarmed the access controlled door behaves normally throughout the day, until the intruder alarm system is armed again using a PIN code.
