As it starts to get a bit chillier outside, we need to keep up resilient security procedures, however much we want to rush home to spend the evening on the sofa. A new report shows that November is the worst month in the year for burglaries. Here are a few tips to make sure you aren’t one of those unlucky businesses:
/ Get to know your neighbours. You can then recognise any unfamiliar faces around the vicinity and can report suspicious behaviour. A friendliness with neighbours also means that you can keep an eye out for each other’s businesses, creating mutual benefits.
/ Don’t make silly mistakes. Thieves are opportunistic and will look for easy targets. Silly mistakes such as leaving the window open or a laptop in plain sight are mistakes you can’t afford to make. Ensure there is someone in charge of leaving the office secure every evening.
/ Check your Insurance. Double check that your insurance policy is up-to-date and provides the appropriate level of cover. If your business is expanding, it is easy to quickly become under-insured without realising. Don’t forget to list especially valuable items separately.
/ Your CCTV system should be consistent and comprehensive. We can design, supply and install a CCTV system that is bespoke to your building. If you already have a CCTV system then check for gaps and flaws regularly- we can integrate CCTV around your current systems to ensure a comprehensive security solution.
/ Your door access system should be up-to-date and suitable for your business. Whether it is turnstiles, video/ audio access, or a fob/card sensitive access system, we can ensure that your access system is foolproof. Educate your staff on the most common unauthorised access scenarios , so that everyone is aware of their responsibilities.
/ Be prepared for the worst. No matter how careful you are or what technology you have, be prepared for the miniscule chance that a burglary does happen. Ensure that you keep backups of all your records and important information, so that your intelligence doesn’t get compromised. Remember to keep records of your company’s valuables and their serial numbers so you will be able to report them to police.
