Tip 1: Automatic timers are essential yet very affordable security devices. Turn on your lights and radio automatically as it gets dark to give the illusion that your house is still occupied.
Tip 2: Use the Royal Mail's 'keepsafe' service - they keep your mail for up to 2 months while you're away. This ensures you mail doesn’t build up outside your door - a clear indication you are away.
Tip 3: For the same reason, cancel any newspaper or milk deliveries.
Tip 4: Inform trusted neighbours the dates that you are away. If you can give them access to keys, they can open and close curtains, collect your post and make the house look more active.
Tip 5: Avoid posting about your holidays on social media. We know everyone wants to show off their beach photos, but wait until you have returned to share that you have been away.
